Zelenskiy: US proposes technical-level Ukraine–Russia talks with UAE as possible venue
Ukraine's president said Washington proposed a trilateral meeting and is expected to suggest a date. He spoke with Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly in New York; Ukrainian negotiators then met US counterparts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on 25 September that the United States has proposed a technical-level trilateral meeting involving Ukraine and Russia, with the United Arab Emirates as a possible location, Reuters reported.
What Zelenskiy said
Zelenskiy said Ukraine is awaiting a date proposal from the US. He spoke with US President Donald Trump at the UN General Assembly in New York; Ukrainian negotiators then met US counterparts. He said he would discuss the idea with Europeans, that Americans talk to Russians, and that he expects a return in about 10 days with a new perspective or a result.
Kremlin position
The Kremlin said a trilateral meeting with Ukraine and the United States could happen soon, according to Reuters. The report does not present negotiations as concluded.
Other diplomatic asks
Zelenskiy asked Trump to raise Ukraine with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during a state visit to the United States. He said Ukraine is awaiting US feedback on de-escalation steps before winter. He also warned Europe about what he described as Russian hybrid attacks and offered assistance; the Kremlin denies sabotage allegations.
