Russian drone attacks on Kyiv on Friday killed at least one child and injured dozens of civilians, according to Ukrainian officials cited by Reuters and AP.
Central Kyiv residences hit
A drone strike on a high-rise in central Kyiv killed a 14-year-old boy and injured at least seven people at that site, Reuters reported. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said four bodies were found in a parking lot after a daytime strike on an office building. Later tallies put the injured at about 59, of whom 25 were hospitalised.
Zelenskiy’s response
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described the attacks as “absolutely savage and sickening.” He said eight regions were attacked and that a food warehouse used by McDonald’s was hit.
UN monitoring note
The UN monitoring mission said at least 200 civilians had been killed in Ukraine in September from attacks that damaged homes, hospitals, shops and workplaces.
Official claims
Russia denies targeting civilians. Russia’s defence ministry claimed it struck defence-industry and logistics targets. Reuters also quoted Kyiv resident Anna saying: “Every morning, my alarm clock is a Shahed drone.” Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in St Petersburg that proposals were on the table but Moscow would think carefully — a claim reported by news agencies.
