Zelenskyy says he asked Trump to enlist China’s influence to end Russia’s war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he asked US President Donald Trump to press Chinese leader Xi Jinping to use China’s influence over Moscow to help end Russia’s invasion, which has lasted about 4.5 years, AP reported via PBS NewsHour on 25 September.

Zelenskyy met Trump on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly. He said he was awaiting feedback after Trump’s meeting with Xi and expected to learn the outcome. NATO has called China a “decisive enabler” of Putin’s invasion — a characterisation reported as the alliance’s position.

Sanctions bill and Patriots

Zelenskyy thanked US senators for a sanctions bill that Trump has signed but has not yet enacted, and said he hoped Trump would implement it. Trump confirmed a final decision on Patriot production licences for Ukraine, according to the AP report.

Other diplomatic tracks

Zelenskyy also mentioned Black Sea shipping talks involving India, Turkey, Egypt and others. Technical talks involving the UAE were referenced only as context for broader diplomacy.
