Russian strike wounds dozens in Kharkiv as attacks kill civilians across Ukraine

A guided Russian aerial bomb struck an apartment building in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, early on Monday, injuring civilians including children, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Telegram, Reuters reported.

Kharkiv and overnight toll

Al Jazeera, citing AFP, AP and Reuters, reported Terekhov said the bomb destroyed two floors of a multistorey block and that six children were among the injured. Separate AP reporting later Monday put Kharkiv wounded at 38, including 10 children. In Kyiv, authorities said a Russian drone hit a petrol station; Russia’s Defence Ministry said it struck two data centres in the capital that it claimed served the Ukrainian army.

Weekend attacks and Zelenskyy’s tally

Ukrainian officials said Sunday’s strikes killed people in Sumy — including a 16-year-old girl near a children’s centre, according to Internal Affairs Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi — and in the Odesa and Zaporizhia regions, with further casualties in Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had launched more than 2,200 attack drones, 1,630 aerial bombs and 38 missiles against Ukraine in the past week. Moscow says it targets military-related sites; both sides deny targeting civilians. AP reported Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday that Ukraine would “have to pay a price” for recent actions and that peace progress looked bleak.
