Russian guided bombs kill six and injure 59 in Kharkiv, including three children

Russian forces struck Kharkiv's Slobidskyi district with three guided aerial bombs on 5 October, killing at least six people and injuring 59, among them three children, according to local authorities cited by the Kyiv Post.

Russian forces hit Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, with three guided aerial bombs on the afternoon of Monday, 5 October, killing at least six people and injuring 59, including three children, local officials said, according to the Kyiv Post.

The strike

The bombs fell on the Slobidskyi district, hitting an industrial area and landing near a residential high-rise. Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov initially reported three dead — two 62-year-old men and a 35-year-old man; the toll rose in the evening as rescuers found more victims under the rubble. An 11-year-old girl was in serious condition. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said two large fires broke out at a warehouse and a production facility; according to Syniehubov, the fires covered almost 15,000 square metres. Dozens of residential buildings and at least 20 cars were damaged.

A series of attacks

The strike followed other recent attacks on the city: on the evening of 4 October, one person was killed and eight injured when Russian forces targeted Kharkiv with three jet-powered “Banderol” drones, and on 2 October guided bombs killed two women and injured 42 people, the Kyiv Post reported, citing Ukrainska Pravda for the latter.
