What happened

The Democratic Party is winning the US midterm elections and taking control of both chambers of Congress, Meduza reports.

According to CNN’s count at the time of publication, Democrats had secured 53 Senate seats to the Republicans’ 41 and 218 House seats to 126 for Republicans (counting continues).

In governor races, Democratic candidates won, among others, in Texas, Kansas and Georgia — states traditionally considered Republican.

Trump’s reaction

President Donald Trump told Fox he was “a little surprised” by the results. “I thought they [Republicans] would do better,” he said (Meduza).

Context

US midterms elect one third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives; governors were also elected in 36 states. The new Congress convenes in January 2027.

Sardaana News editorial position

From January 1, 2027 onward, the United States will change its foreign policy course — toward stronger support for Ukraine and a hard confrontation with Russia. A Democratic Congress holds the levers of budget, sanctions and military aid, and the White House can no longer set Washington’s line alone.

Russia tried to tilt the US to its side through its puppet-master Trump, but it missed its “window of opportunity” to end the war on its terms. That window closed yesterday — at America’s polling stations.
