Microsoft unveils unified Copilot app with Home, Code and Autopilot

On 25 September 2026 Microsoft announced a redesigned Copilot experience that pulls chat, coding and long-running agents into one app. Jared Spataro, Microsoft’s chief marketing officer for AI at Work, described three pillars: Home, Code and Autopilot. The move answers competitor products from OpenAI and Anthropic that also bundle chat, coding and agents for business users.

Home merges conversational Chat with Cowork, Microsoft’s agent for delegated end-to-end tasks, and brings Word, Excel and PowerPoint editing into Copilot (“Office in Copilot”). Code lets people describe apps, dashboards or automations in natural language; Microsoft says it uses the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot and runs in a sandboxed, tenant-hosted Managed Runtime now in preview. Autopilot (previously Scout) is a cloud-hosted agent with its own identity and memory that can keep working on recurring tasks without constant prompting. Home and Code begin in the Frontier early-access program in the coming weeks; Autopilot expands to private preview at month-end.

Pricing and context

Microsoft is splitting everyday Copilot use (chat and Office surfaces) under a per-user subscription from heavier agentic workloads on usage-based billing, including frontier models such as OpenAI’s Astra and Anthropic’s Claude Fable. Copilot is grounded in Microsoft IQ, with Fabric IQ bringing Power BI semantic models into chat and cowork, and Dynamics 365 / Power Platform context rolling into public preview.

Why it matters

CEO Satya Nadella had promised a “Copilot super app” that would arrive this quarter. Friday’s launch meets that window while competing for enterprise seats against tools sold directly by model labs. Availability outside Frontier and Premium/Pro previews will expand over coming weeks according to Microsoft.
