Google Cloud launches Gemini agent for enterprises, with consumers later

At Gemini at Work 2026, Google Cloud unveiled an agent that plans from objectives, connects to Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack and data tools, and can pick models including Claude. Early testers include On, Shopify and PayPal.

At Gemini at Work 2026 on 8 October 2026, Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent for enterprise customers first, with a consumer version planned later, according to TechCrunch and Google’s blog.

What it does

  • The agent is designed to work from objectives, not only step-by-step instructions, using skills and tools.
  • It can connect to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Git, BigQuery, Databricks, Postgres, Snowflake and MCP servers.
  • By default it picks the best model; users can choose others, including Anthropic Claude, with open-source and private models planned later.
  • The agent has its own Workspace account (email and an audit trail as an agent). A tasks inbox shows thinking, subagents, skills and progress.

Access and scale claims

  • Available via iOS/Android, Windows/Mac, CLI, Workspace, Microsoft 365, ServiceNow and Slack.
  • CEO Sundar Pichai said Gemini has more than 1 billion monthly active users and that about 90% of Fortune 100 companies use Gemini Enterprise — company figures.
  • Early testers named by Google include On, Shopify and PayPal.
  • Cost controls include multi-model orchestration, smart routing and real-time spend caps.
