Anthropic and GSA extend a 40% Claude discount to US state, local and tribal governments

A new OneGov agreement gives US government buyers 40% off Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API, with pay-per-use pricing and no minimum spend. Anthropic estimates $1 billion in savings.

On 27 October 2026 Anthropic and the US General Services Administration (GSA) announced an expanded OneGov agreement. Government buyers get a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API, and — for the first time — the discount extends beyond federal agencies to state, local, tribal and territorial governments.

Key terms

  • Consumption-based pricing: agencies pay for the tokens they use; there is no minimum spend commitment.
  • Channels: purchases through GSA’s Multiple Award Schedule now; according to Anthropic, the discount will also apply via cloud providers “in the coming months”.
  • Estimated savings: Anthropic puts them at $1 billion — a company estimate, not an independent figure.
  • A dedicated implementation-support programme for agencies is promised “in the coming weeks”.

Adoption claims

Anthropic says about 500 US federal, state and local government organisations now use Claude, that weekly active users of Claude for Government are up about eightfold since February, and that federal civilian usage has grown about 20-fold in a year. It cites examples such as a Utah pilot in which 71% of 34 developers reported saving 20+ hours over four weeks. These figures and case studies come from the company and have not been independently verified.

Claude for Government (FedRAMP High) became generally available on 30 September; Claude Enterprise is in the FedRAMP 20x process for Moderate authorisation. The deal lands the same week Anthropic filed for its IPO, which Sardaana covered separately.
