Meta acquires Conductor, the multi-agent coding startup

Meta has bought Conductor, whose platform lets engineers run multiple AI coding agents in parallel. Conductor Cloud shuts down on 20 November; founder Charlie Holtz says a new product is planned for early 2027. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that lets software engineers assign parts of a project to multiple agents working in parallel. Conductor founder and CEO Charlie Holtz announced the deal on 4 November 2026; Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but did not give financial details.

What Conductor does

Conductor, founded in 2024 and launched publicly around July 2025, orchestrates coding agents from labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI rather than shipping its own model. Engineers can run agent teams in the cloud, locally, or from a phone on compartmentalised parts of a codebase.

Holtz said he looks forward to working with Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and Superintelligence Labs product head Nat Friedman, and teased “something new” for early next year.

Wind-down timeline

According to Conductor’s announcement:

  • 4 November: no new sign-ups; existing Pro users keep Pro features free for now.
  • 13 November: Conductor Cloud becomes read-only.
  • 20 November: Conductor Cloud shuts down and cloud user data deletion begins; users are urged to export or transfer workspaces to local.
  • Local Conductor will keep receiving new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027, when it is expected to wind down.

Context

The deal comes as large AI labs race to own developer tools. Axios reported the same day that OpenAI plans to acquire another developer-tools startup, Pierre Computer. Meta has also launched its own Muse Code agent and reported Muse agents past 10 million users. Terms of the Conductor purchase remain undisclosed.
