Lilly Phase 2: eloralintide plus tirzepatide shows deeper weight loss than tirzepatide alone
On 30 September 2026 Eli Lilly reported Phase 2 mid-stage trial results (EASD, Milan) in obesity with Type 2 diabetes: the highest combo dose of eloralintide (amylin) plus tirzepatide averaged up to 23.3% weight loss over 48 weeks versus 14.8% on high-dose tirzepatide alone.
On 30 September 2026, Eli Lilly reported mid-stage Phase 2 results presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) meeting in Milan, as covered by CNBC. The trial enrolled people with obesity and Type 2 diabetes and tested the amylin analogue eloralintide alone and combined with tirzepatide.
Key reported results
According to CNBC’s account of the company data, the highest combination dose (9 mg eloralintide + 15 mg tirzepatide) averaged up to 23.3% weight loss (about 54 lb) over 48 weeks, versus 14.8% (about 34.4 lb) on 15 mg tirzepatide alone and up to 12.3% (about 28.6 lb) on eloralintide alone. A1C fell by up to 2.9% on the combo versus 2.4% on high-dose tirzepatide and 1.4% on amylin alone. Discontinuation for side effects was higher on the combo (10.8–27% by dose) than on tirzepatide alone (2.9%); mostly gastrointestinal, mild to moderate, during dose escalation. Lilly said it plans Phase 3 by end of 2026 and a co-formulation as one injection.
Study type and limitations — read carefully
This is a Phase 2 (not Phase 3) trial; results were company-reported via CNBC coverage of the EASD presentation. Phase 2 findings support further testing and do not establish a new approved standard of care. This article is not personal medical advice — discuss treatment options with a qualified clinician.
