Celine SS27: Michael Rider’s restrained show opens with Paris Is Burning voiceover
On 3 October at Paris Fashion Week, Michael Rider presented Celine Spring/Summer 2027 under a thatched-roof set at the Musée des Archives Nationales, opening with a Dorian Corey quote from the 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning, Dazed and W Magazine reported. Guests included SZA, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lisa Bonet and Honey Dijon; the collection favoured wearable layering over spectacle.
Michael Rider’s fifth Celine runway opened Saturday morning, 3 October, inside a white-walled, thatched-roof structure at Paris’s Musée des Archives Nationales, with a calm, wearable collection framed by a voiceover from the ballroom documentary Paris Is Burning, according to Dazed, W Magazine and WWD.
Paris Is Burning opening
The show began with the voice of performer Dorian Corey from the 1990 film: hopes of stardom, aiming lower with age, and leaving “some mark upon the world.” Reviewers said the clothes were more subdued than the documentary’s ballroom energy — black silk openers, layered separates, leather and knits — aiming for impact through restraint rather than volume, Dazed wrote.
Front row and Rider’s notes
SZA made a rare fashion-week appearance; Tracee Ellis Ross, Lisa Bonet, Honey Dijon and others sat front row, W Magazine reported. Rider’s notes spoke of “emotional dressing,” calm when needed, and clothes that “just do their job.” Backstage he told WWD the team works intuitively and loves when “real clothes are worn spontaneously.”
