Chanel SS27: Matthieu Blazy marks one year with a flock of birds and Gabrielle Chanel's own 2.55 bag
Matthieu Blazy showed his spring-summer 2027 Chanel collection at the Grand Palais in Paris on 5 October, a year after his debut, under 95 suspended birds. The 83 looks traced Gabrielle Chanel's changing personal style, in bold colours rather than quiet luxury.
Matthieu Blazy returned to the Grand Palais in Paris on Monday evening, 5 October, to show his spring-summer 2027 collection for Chanel — one year after his first show for the house. A flock of 95 white birds hung in mid-flight from the glass roof; Blazy told the press the idea came to him on holiday in southern Italy, watching migrating birds over the Crati River.
“The women within a woman”
According to WWD, the 83 looks followed the evolution of Gabrielle Chanel’s own style, from stiff Edwardian tailoring and borrowed men’s suits to the tweed suit she invented. The same model, Dyanira Hurbuscher, opened and closed the show carrying Gabrielle Chanel’s own 2.55 handbag from the house archives. Nicole Kidman read passages from Virginia Woolf on the soundtrack, and the show ended with Britney Spears’s “Gimme More”.
The Guardian highlighted the colour — a red and white embroidered jacket over a jade and turquoise skirt, two-tone pumps in zebra stripes and yellow polka dots — and the classic suit worn with nothing underneath. A smocked silk on an elastic membrane was, Blazy said, his answer to what “sporty” could mean at Chanel.
The business backdrop
Chanel tops the Lyst index of the hottest brands, and Bloomberg reported 16% growth for the privately held company in the first half of 2026, the Guardian noted. “It’s a good start,” Blazy said after the show.
