It's official: Anthony Vaccarello leaves Saint Laurent after ten years
Kering confirmed on 9 October that Vaccarello, creative director since 2016, is leaving Saint Laurent; no successor has been named, though Chloé's Chemena Kamali is widely tipped.
Saint Laurent confirmed on Friday, 9 October, that Anthony Vaccarello is leaving the house after a decade as creative director, ending weeks of speculation during Paris Fashion Week. The brand said only that it will “soon announce its new creative leadership”.
Kering CEO Luca de Meo thanked the Belgian designer for strengthening “the enduring influence of one of France’s greatest couture Houses”. Saint Laurent CEO Cédric Charbit said Vaccarello had taken the house “to the forefront of desirability and image”.
A decade in numbers
Vaccarello, 44, succeeded Hedi Slimane in 2016. Riding strong Chinese demand, he turned Saint Laurent into a global powerhouse with well over €3 billion in annual sales in 2023, before the brand lost traction over the last couple of years, Reuters reported. His final show was the all-gold Spring/Summer 2027 collection on 29 September, staged under giant chandeliers.
Who’s next
WWD, Reuters and others report that Chemena Kamali, creative director of Richemont-owned Chloé and Vaccarello’s womenswear design director at Saint Laurent from 2016 to 2023, is the frontrunner. Neither Saint Laurent nor Chloé has confirmed anything. The change follows new creative directors at Kering’s Gucci, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta as de Meo overhauls the group amid the luxury slowdown.
