LVMH opens 71 sites to the public for Les Journées Particulières and honours 69 artisans

LVMH launched the sixth edition of its Les Journées Particulières open-doors event on 16 October, returning after a four-year hiatus with 71 locations worldwide over three days, after honouring 69 artisans as LVMH Virtuosos at La Samaritaine in Paris.

LVMH on Friday, 16 October, kicked off the sixth edition of Les Journées Particulières, its open-doors event that lets the public visit the group’s workshops and houses, WWD reported.

The event

  • Returning after a four-year hiatus, the event opens 71 locations worldwide over three days, following launch events in Paris and Shanghai.
  • It began on Thursday night with the LVMH Virtuosos ceremony at the La Samaritaine department store in Paris, hosted by Antoine Arnault, LVMH’s director of image and environment. The 69 honoured artisans each received a jewellery box with a special pin designed by Maison Fred.

A difficult moment for luxury

  • Arnault acknowledged at a prelaunch dinner that the event comes at a challenging time for luxury goods, WWD reported. According to WWD, LVMH shares are down more than 40% this year, and the group has lost its position as France’s most valuable company to L’Oréal.
  • Earlier in the week LVMH reported a 2% organic fall in third-quarter group sales, with a 5% drop in its key fashion and leather goods division, BoF noted.
