Atelier Versace returns to the couture runway in January 2027 for Pieter Mulier's first full show

The Prada-owned label has not shown haute couture since 2016; Hermès will also debut couture in January as brands court their top-spending clients, Vogue reports.

Versace has announced that Atelier Versace will return to the haute couture schedule in January 2027, Vogue reports. It will be Pieter Mulier’s first full runway show as the brand’s creative director.

Background

  • The Italian label, acquired by Prada Group in late 2025 in a deal worth about €1.25 billion, has not shown couture since 2016, although the atelier kept working behind closed doors.
  • According to EDITED data cited by Vogue, the share of discounted Versace apparel in June–August fell from 42% in 2024 to 33% in 2026, while 47% of its apparel in October was priced above $1,000, up from 35% two years earlier.

A wider couture push

Versace is not alone: Hermès will debut couture in January 2027, Balenciaga returned to the couture calendar in 2021, and Celine’s CEO has told Vogue Business the house is developing couture. Vogue links the trend to the growing weight of top clients: a Bain report found that very important clients make up 2% of luxury customers but 45% of purchases.

Not a boom for everyone

Couture remains a hard business. Giambattista Valli cancelled its January couture show after reviewing its operations, and Valentino has cut its couture shows to once a year to save costs.
