What «Semse tyl» is
«Сэмсэ тыл» (Semse tyl) is a short (about 3.5 minutes) weekly Sakha-language commentary programme on the state channel NVK Sakha. Episodes are posted on NVK Sakha’s YouTube channel, VK Video and RUTUBE, where the programme’s playlist has more than 130 videos (RUTUBE). Recent episodes aired on 7 September, 15 September, 6 October and 20 October 2026 (07.09.26, 15.09.26, 06.10.26, 20.10.26). The YouTube descriptions are boilerplate and say nothing about content.
Episode titles show the agenda — world politics, the war in Ukraine, the US and Europe:
- “Russia, China and India have come together” (08.09.25) (YouTube);
- “Will Trump get the Nobel Peace Prize?” (06.10.25) (YouTube);
- “The Ukrainian conflict resembles the Korean War” (24.02.26) and “Trump and Netanyahu attacked Iran” (02.03.26) (RUTUBE);
- “The situation in the Middle East has worsened, Trump is in a hurry, Europe cannot join in” (23.03.26) (YouTube);
- “Zelensky removed Defence Minister Fedorov” (20.07.26) (YouTube); “Zelensky met Trump” (03.08.26) (YouTube).
The 5 October 2022 episode “on relations with Western states” (YouTube) featured Chokuur Gavriliev, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Sakha Sire. The paper described it as analysing “changes in the Western countries that support the regime of Ukraine” and when reconciliation might come (Sakha Sire). We could not identify the presenters of other episodes from public descriptions; no transcripts are publicly available.
«Conversations about What Matters»: what is documented
- Since 1 September 2022, weekly “Conversations about What Matters” (Razgovory o vazhnom) sessions open the school week every Monday across Russia, including Yakutia. The first teaching materials for grades 5–7 told teachers to present Russian soldiers as “heroes” and “patriots of Russia” and explained the “special operation” as protecting Donbas from “the Kyiv regime” and “disarming Ukraine”, adding that “massive military and other aid from the collective West… prolongs the fighting”. Grade 8 pupils were to learn that “residents of the DPR and LPR are Russian people” and “Russian soldiers are heroes” (Meduza, Mediazona). After protests by parents and teachers, direct “SVO” references were removed from some materials in September 2022 (NEWS.ru).
- In February 2023, a video for the pre-23 February lesson had the monk Kiprian (Valery Burkov) tell pupils that “the whole West” is fighting Russia in Ukraine: “every hundred years the West unites to destroy Russia”. Another video for grades 8–11 contrasted the Russian army with the armies of the US and Europe — the slave trade, Hiroshima, Vietnam (iStories).
- In March 2024, the lesson after the Crocus City Hall attack told children that “the enemy’s task is to divide the Russian people” and listed “our real friends”; the US and EU were left out of the list of countries that sent condolences (Novaya Gazeta Europe).
- In 2025 the Russian Military Historical Society presented a school manual stating that “Ukraine in its current form is entirely a creation of the Soviet era” and calling Ukrainian an “artificial” language (Novaya Gazeta).
- The claim that Kazakhstan is an “artificial state” appeared in August 2022 in a post on Dmitry Medvedev’s VKontakte page deleted after ten minutes (it also said the peoples of the USSR “will again live together”); Medvedev’s team said the account was hacked (Caravan.kz, Factcheck.kz). We did not find a “Conversations” lesson making that claim about Kazakhstan.
Sardaana News editorial position
Fascist Z propaganda with a pro-Russian narrative is spreading through NVK Sakha.
«Semse tyl» is open pro-Kremlin Z propaganda in the Sakha language. In genre and purpose it is no different from Solovyov Live, and it continues the tradition of Goebbels-style propaganda: Ukraine is a “regime”, the West is the enemy, Russia the only protector. Its goal is to convince the Sakha people that Yakutia is better off inside Russia, that “Yakuts and Russians are brothers”, and to cultivate hostility towards Ukraine, the United States and Western Europe. A state channel created to develop the Sakha language is using that language to serve the war.
The same state policy has entered the schools. “Conversations about What Matters” teach children that Ukraine is the enemy, soldiers are heroes, the US is an “evil empire”, and the West and its allies are Russia’s adversaries. Around these lessons the state builds an imperial narrative about its neighbours — Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the Baltic states, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan — as “cardboard”, “artificial” states destined to return to Russia, and about a revived USSR.
Sakha children and Sakha viewers deserve the truth, not propaganda in their native language.
